Tresor is one of the most important techno clubs in history founded by Dimitri Hegemann and opened in March 1991. The club was located in the basement of the former Wertheim department store on Leipziger Straße, in an original bank vault.
With the intense development of the area around Potsdamer Platz, the area became attractive to investors. The club operated for years on short-term leases. Ultimately, the last event took place on April 16, 2005, and the building was later demolished.
“Tresor im Exil”
After its closure, the club held events under the “Tresor im Exil” banner at other Berlin locations, including SO36 and Maria am Ostbahnhof.
New Location
Tresor returned on May 24, 2007, to the disused Berlin-Mitte power plant on Köpenicker Straße. The club occupies part of the complex now known as Kraftwerk Berlin. The industrial character of the space has been preserved, and some of the original safes and elements of the old club have been moved to the new location. The original steel vault door from the old Tresor has become a symbol of the Berlin techno scene.
