Sisyphos is one of Berlin’s most recognizable techno clubs, known for its festival atmosphere, multi-day events, and vast open-air space.
It was founded in 2008 when the Sommerleuchten e.V. collective took over the premises of a former dog biscuit factory in the Rummelsburg district. The first events took place in 2009 and were initially semi-private. The club operates in a former factory at Hauptstraße 15 and has grown over time into a complex with several dance floors, a beach, a pond, chillout areas, and art installations. The club’s distinctive symbol is two kissing ducks on the entrance gate.
Sisyphos has operated from the same location – a former dog biscuit factory in Rummelsburg – since its inception. The club was temporarily closed in 2014 for administrative reasons, but reopened a few months later. Considered the spiritual successor to legendary open-air clubs, it became famous for its non-stop parties from Friday to Monday, focusing on a more colorful, psychedelic, and festival-like aesthetic. Sisyphos is often cited as an example of a venue that upholds Berlin’s ideal of creativity, freedom, and experimentation. The club attracts not only electronic music fans but also artists, performers, and independent creators.
According to Berlin’s official website, over its 16 years of operation, it has helped maintain techno as an important part of the city’s cultural heritage.
