R. da Madeira 84 – Porto, Portugal
Located right above the train tracks at São Bento Station, Ferro Bar is one of Porto’s most interesting cultural spots. It’s not a typical techno club, but a multifunctional space combining concerts, DJ sets, a bar, and one of the city’s most distinctive terraces.
Ferro Bar was opened in 2019 by Sérgio Ribeiro, formerly associated with the iconic Armazém do Chá. From the outset, the idea was to create a space inspired by the city’s industrial history and proximity to the railway. The interior design incorporates steel elements, historic machine parts, and decorations reminiscent of the Industrial Revolution. The name “Ferro” means “iron” in Portuguese.
Although Ferro Bar operates as a bar and meeting space, music remains its heart. During the week, jazz, rock, and alternative concerts take place here, while in the evenings, DJs specializing in electronica, house, electro, and techno take over the space. Over time, the venue has become a key venue for the local underground.
Unlike strictly clubbing institutions like Gare Porto, Ferro focuses on a diverse program. One day, you might catch an experimental concert, the next a sunset session on the terrace, and then an all-night DJ set.
Ferro’s most distinctive feature is the large terrace overlooking the São Bento railway tracks. It is here that the popular “Trainspotting Sunsets” series takes place, which over the years has become a symbol of the venue. The sunsets, music, and views of Porto’s historic district have created a unique atmosphere that distinguishes Ferro from most clubs in the city.
Ferro has played a significant role in the development of Porto’s independent music scene. The venue regularly supports local artists, organizes community events, and provides space for young music groups. Its combination of concerts, club culture, and open-minded meetings has made it one of the city’s most important nightlife hotspots.
