Tokyo, Japan — Get ready to witness a moment that transcends the history of electronic music. Techno master Jeff Mills has announced a special event to commemorate the 30th anniversary of his legendary recording “Live at Liquid Room, Tokyo.”
The event, titled “Jeff Mills – Live at Liquid Room 30th Anniversary,” will take place on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the iconic Liquidroom club in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. The night will begin at 10:30 p.m. and run until 5:00 a.m.
A Night That Made History
Jeff Mills’ set recorded on October 28, 1995, at the then Shinjuku Liquidroom was immortalized on the mix CD “Jeff Mills – Live at Liquid Room, Tokyo,” a piece considered a fundamental milestone in techno. In the artist’s own words:
What happened during that 3-hour set was more than any of us could have imagined. It wasn’t a typical DJ set. It was more of a transition point. One that doesn’t come around very often. What resulted would be the preservation of a turning point in the history of dance music.
The Return to the Legendary Format
For this special celebration, Jeff Mills will revisit the art form of DJing that is truly unique to him. The promise is to revive that legendary set with a feature exclusive to Japan: Mills will present his set from that era using two turntables and analog open reel equipment, a format he no longer regularly uses in his performances. It will be a unique opportunity to experience his legendary high-speed, all-vinyl set from the era of hardcore and minimal.
The event is part of a world tour commemorating the anniversary, which will also visit cities such as Osaka, London, Hong Kong, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Dublin.
In addition to the main show, a 30th Anniversary Exhibition of ‘Live at Liquid Room’ will be held at KATA on the second floor of LIQUIDROOM from November 13 to 15, 2025. The exhibition will include commemorative material and the reintroduction of the legendary CD.
Mills fans will also be able to witness the premiere of an audiovisual piece that includes material from the original 1995 recording, interspersed with recently recorded interviews.
