Nowa 3/3 – Cracow, Poland
Sekta Selekta is a small underground club and bar in Kraków, built around DJ culture rather than large-scale nightlife. Located at Wiślna 8, only a short distance from the Main Square, it represents the opposite end of the spectrum from large electronic venues: intimate, informal and strongly connected with local selectors and independent promoters.
The project grew from the Sekta Selekta collective, active in Kraków’s electronic music scene before establishing a permanent venue. Its philosophy has always been unusually broad. Rather than identifying with a single genre, the programme is based around selection itself — house, techno, electro, breaks, bass, dub, disco and more experimental sounds can appear depending on the DJ and the night.
This approach gives the venue more in common with a listening bar or small community clubhouse than a conventional nightclub. The distance between DJ and audience is minimal, international guests can appear alongside Kraków residents, and nights are often shaped by extended sets rather than elaborate production. The focus remains on records, selectors and the social environment surrounding them.

Sekta Selekta is also closely connected with Kraków’s wider independent music ecosystem. Local DJs, collectives and radio communities regularly pass through the booth, while the relatively small scale allows less obvious music to be programmed without needing to fill a large dancefloor. Vinyl culture and digging have remained important reference points even as the musical spectrum has expanded.
Its central location creates an interesting contrast. Kraków’s Old Town is dominated by tourism and highly commercial nightlife, yet behind a relatively discreet entrance Sekta Selekta maintains the atmosphere of a neighbourhood underground club. There is little separation between bar, booth and dancefloor, and the crowd itself becomes more important than stage production or visual spectacle.
In that sense, Sekta Selekta represents one of the simplest forms of club culture: a small room, a good soundsystem, carefully chosen music and a community that repeatedly returns to hear it.
