DJ Chermy – Black music is a crown

Eduardo Vectermi or better known as DJ Chermy from Caracas/Venezuela, talks to us today about his artistic work, his aesthetics and his flow.

Why the name DJ Chermy?
Chermy has been my nickname since I was a teenager, it’s a diminutive of my last name (Vectermi) and it’s how almost everyone has always known me.

When did your interest in music begin?
From an early age, influenced mostly by the nu metal, alternative rock and hip hop scene: Deftones, Limp Bizkit, Cypress Hill, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Primus and Beastie Boys would be my first musical references.

Do you work with real vinyl records and other sources? For example, digital platforms, etc.
Yes and yes. Vinyl records, cd´s, software (Traktor, Serato). I use digital platforms to upload my mixes, I started using Soundcloud and now I use Mixcloud for streaming: www.livesets.com.

What was the event you liked the most in which you have participated?
I have a lot of incredible experiences in events and parties but without a doubt the most special and important was to open Jamiroquai’s show in Caracas in 2013, I still can’t believe it.

Do you belong to a crew or do you work alone?
Both. I’m currently part of Budú’s crew and Yunglian’s Club Fatal crew. I was also part of the crews Black Magic Sound, Boogie Nights and Caribbean DJs.

Have you had collaborations with artists outside your project?
Yes, especially in the visual/graphic section, I’ve had the pleasure of working with artists like Uh!, Najimel, the YoYo Dojo collective, among others. And I’m a regular contributor to many local MCs’ shows.

Do you have any upcoming projects you would like to share with us?
I have a couple of sets in process with two international colleagues that will be released later this year and soon I will be reviewing hip hop, rnb and jazz releases for a well known European site, I’ll be releasing more info on that soon.

Do you have any artist that influences you?
Currently my biggest influences are: Nipsey Hussle (RIP), Gary Clark Jr, Jose James, Mungo’s Hi Fi, Anderson .Paak and Wetside Gunn.

What aesthetic defines DJ Chermy?
Without a doubt, “black music” defines the structure of my sets: I go from funk to dancehall and from there to hip hop (for example), without the slightest lag, and I think that’s where the success I’ve had lies. The idea is that the public has a great time playing the music I like, always placing new tracks next to classics and remixes and without fear of experimenting with different genres, always within the same “black music”.

We invite you to the next events where DJ Chermy will be there!

DJ Chermy was a key player in those renowned events held in Caracas called BMS (Black Magic Sound).
