BLAWAN – SickElixir

Blawan’s first full-length album for XL is as uncompromising as you’d expect from the Barnsley-born, Berlin-based producer. Across 14 tracks, he twists pain, memories, and raw life experience into a sonic palette that feels both chaotic and surgical.

Industrial sounds, a nod to his adolescence on a worm farm, underpin fractured rhythms, while moments like “NOS” briefly emerge from the turbulence with distorted clarity. The scale of the record recalls his formative trips to the West Indies Center in Leeds, where powerful bass and community intensity seeped into his DNA. That influence can be felt in the way the percussion cuts through walls of distortion and in the sudden drops into negative space. Blawan’s history with Karenn and Persher is evident in the abrasive textures, but this work carries an unmistakably personal core: heavy, inquisitive techno that thrives on edge and unpredictability.
