About the event
Wisłoujście 2023 is an event that will allow you to discover the Wisłoujście Fortress, the oldest seaside fortress on the Polish coast. This is a place that for centuries served as the guardian of the port of Gdańsk and was known as the Gate to the Republic of Poland. It is also a place where you will have a great time with electronic music played by DJs and producers from different countries. It is an event that combines history, culture and entertainment.
Location
The Wisłoujście Fortress is a historic fortress in Gdańsk on the Dead Vistula, formerly located at the main entrance to the port of Gdańsk at the mouth of the main arm of the Vistula River to the Baltic Sea. Its most important tasks were the control of merchant ships, their protection and navigation by the light of the lighthouse, and until the 19th century it had military significance. In the construction of the fortress, various architectural styles (starting from Gothic), techniques and building materials can be seen. This is due to the fact that over the years the fortress was rebuilt after each destruction. The heart of the fortress is a cylindrical tower (now devoid of a finial), which served as a lighthouse until 1758. It is surrounded by a brick wreath (sometimes also called a rondel-cannon station), the outer perimeter of which is adjacent to the officers’ houses. A four-bastion carré fort was built around the wreath, with a gate with a postern leading inside. From the north-west side, fort carré adjoins the Dead Vistula, while from the other sides it is encircled by a rampart, called the Eastern Rampart. It consists of bastions, and one of the two previously existing ravelins has survived to our times. Fort Carré and the Eastern Rampart are surrounded by moats fed by the Martwa Wisła.
