Today I went to walk a little part of the Central University of Venezuela, it is a little nostalgic to see again its trees and buildings, the sections with those wonderful roofs with air tunnels that envelop you in a museum experience, some sculptures deteriorated and others not so much.
Although I did not have the opportunity to study here at this university, there was a time when I used to come with classmates to take a break, skateboarding (the best activity I remember), in fact today I came with my board and I could roll through those streets of the parking lots where many times I came to enjoy, a magical place with a lot of history! Sad stories, of student struggle, of economic wars, of ambulance sirens and medical protests, of institutional abandonment, of concerts, of soccer games on Sundays, of lush gardens that now are nothing more than overgrown bushes.
I leave below some info that I was able to compile from some Internet pages with some important data about this important structure in Caracas, the educational center that looks like a huge garden and where you can do things that are not even directly related to studying there.
The Central University of Venezuela (UCV) is the oldest institution of higher education in Venezuela; it was founded in 1721. Its headquarters, located in Caracas, was declared a World Heritage Site in 2000.
The current building was designed by architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva and is a true architectural jewel, with its buildings, corridors, murals, sculptures and gardens.
An interesting feature of the architecture of the Universidad Central de Venezuela is the large number of covered corridors adorned with statues and murals that are available, which is very convenient as it allows movement between buildings, with freshness and without rain.
UCV has good sports facilities. The Olympic Stadium is the scene of soccer games and athletics events. It also has a baseball stadium that is used by the Caracas and La Guaira teams of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.
One of the most important places of the Universidad Central de Venezuela is undoubtedly the Aula Magna, where all students aspire to receive their university degree with their cap and gown. The Aula Magna is an auditorium built by Carlos Raúl Villanueva and that Alexander Calder adorned with a famous clouds that give an impeccable acoustics and sound.
The Botanical Garden:
At the exit of the university campus facing Plaza Venezuela, is the botanical garden that contains a great variety of plant species and lagoons, undoubtedly a very pleasant place to stroll and enjoy the city. It is a true oasis in the city, next to the eastern highway and near Plaza Venezuela.
