Victor Iglesias Integral artist

Today we are with Víctor Iglesias, integral artist, Venezuelan born in Caracas in 1984. He tells us about the diversity of his artistic work and the fusions he makes. Enjoy it!

Astrid: What artistic work have you developed throughout your life?

Víctor: Photography, plastic arts, urban interventions such as the Sticker, wallpaper, graffiti and incorporation of objects in public places; Lighting and sound setting for theater and dance.

Astrid: What branch of art do you identify with the most?

Víctor: I don’t think I could identify with a single artistic branch. I have been working with photography for many years and this same closeness to the fact of capturing images in theater and dance, leads me to continue investigating the sound setting and lighting for the scene, but I have also always had proximity to the plastic arts through collage, so that the audiovisual, Plastic arts and performing arts are always present in my work.

Astrid: Can you relate photography to theatre and achieve an artistic fusion?

Víctor: Yes, what makes this statement more tangible is the work I have been developing with the self-portrait, where you can see the contribution of scenic art in my photography.

Astrid: Have you participated in events, exhibitions, forums, nationwide? Tell us about that and what artistic work you participated with.

Víctor: I have participated in different collective exhibitions through photography in some public places such as: Plaza Bolivar and Caracas metro, Festival Crea Joven 2007 in the old Ateneo de Caracas, I was part of some editions of Cuadro por danza (Festival of Photography and video made in Venezuela) and I have been published in various digital media, magazines, newspapers, and books such as “Nuevo país de la Danza” of the Banesco Universal Publishing Fund. With scenic proposals, I participated in Festivals with the MUDANZA group, Artistic Group Tuesday 13 and with the Latin American Group of Performing Arts GLAE.

Astrid: Are you an independent artist or do you develop within a crew or collective?

Víctor: I have been part of some Crews and artistic collectives such as MUDANZA, Grupo Artístico Martes 13 and Grupo Latinoamericano de Artes Escénicas GLAE, with whom I have developed several projects for the scene, but I consider myself an independent artist since in this way I feel more comfortable to experiment in creation.

Astrid: What personal message do you try to project when you express yourself artistically?

Víctor: It’s always hard for me to talk about this, maybe the message changes through my different artistic creations, but I would leave that answer to the viewer of the work.

Astrid: Tell us about your photographic theme.

Víctor: From the self-portrait I try to make clear the passage of time on the body, self-acceptance, gender violence and the poetics of the intimate in the space I habit.

Astrid: What social impact do you think your work as an artist can have?

Víctor: I seek to make visible issues that are normalized before society through images that can be uncomfortable, exposing these problems, calling for reflection in the viewer, perhaps generating individual internal movement that in the long run has an impact on the collective.

Astrid: Between digital and manual tools, which is more comfortable for you?

Victor: All the tools are valid and are there to be used by anyone who wants. In this digital age, it is undeniable that works are being made that in the past were almost unthinkable, and I say almost, because many artists long ago, developed incredible pieces with a roll camera and their small laboratory in the back room of their house. For me, nowadays having everything on a cell phone, or having the practicality that digital cameras give, is as tasty as a cold beer. Obviously I’m more comfortable with digital.

Astrid: Would you do this for the rest of your life?

Víctor: Yes, I cannot take my life to any field without conceiving it from art, from my way of dressing, cooking and even moving, I seek that everything is an artistic fact for me.

Thanks to Victor for allowing me to interview him today, for me it is always an honor.
I invite you to follow him on his social networks.
