Today I want to share with you this report about a beautiful community that has created an activity full of culture, ecology and awareness about the massive consumption of clothes, they try to implement the exchange of articles that you no longer need for others that you do, the activity is performed once a week in an outdoor space, between jugglers, skateboarders, artisans, musicians and children, a square that has the function of giving entrance to a natural park and within the same are the science museums and Fine Arts in Caracas / Venezuela.
Here are the 3 testimonies that we were able to take, enjoy!
Skailer Blanco – Founder of La Hora del Trueque:
La hora del trueque is an exchange market where there is no money management, here you bring the things you don’t use and you exchange them for things you need, this is an alternative for people who have the way to get things and it is also an alternative to save, here we can exchange clothes, shoes, books, movies and basic necessities like food and other things, so come from 1pm to 5pm on Fridays here at Plaza Los Museos, Caracas/Venezuela to exchange and to be part of this barter community.
Samantha Spadafora – Participant of La Hora del Trueque:
I am 35 years old, I am in the barter approximately 6, about 5 or 6 years, I do not remember how I found out but the truth is that I really like this activity because I feel it is a way to have clothes, in an accessible way because due to the circumstances that we live here in this country (in Venezuela) is very difficult to afford clothes of very good quality or simply that is, that is in good condition let’s say, Even new clothes come with these details, holes, poor quality fabric and get damaged very quickly and this activity has allowed us not only to get clothes but shoes, accessories and other things such as supplies for the home, because as you know, here is something difficult sometimes the question of food among other things we have managed to create this beautiful community of barter and has also led to other activities such as the upcoming Eco Pasarela, which is the Slow Fashion to continue perpetuating the usefulness of clothing and accessories and other things, the intervention of pieces, these same pieces that we have been changing, you can give them a lot of utility to stop a little bit that industry so frenetic that is the mass consumption of clothing, and everyone is invited to participate, we are located in a completely open environment in a square called “Los Museos” in Bellas Artes, Caracas/ Venezuela, everyone is invited to participate as long as they are willing to collaborate and there is also a lot of respect, it is totally free, no one is ever forced to forcibly change things they don’t want, then I consider it a very nice activity, we have created a very nice community and where we all support each other.
Mercedes Romero – Participant of La Hora del Trueque:
They are inviting me to do this interview to talk about the benefits of our group, this is a great family “La Hora del Trueque” we spend a lot of time here exchanging pieces that otherwise would go to the trash, contributing to less pollution, raising awareness in young people, and above all we have a great time, now we also have the idea of the parade for tomorrow and we are all very motivated to present the models created from used clothes, from used raw material, avoiding buying new textiles and taking advantage of all those fabrics of the past that have such vibrant colors and such fantastic textures.
Thank you very much to these 3 wonderful girls for allowing us to know a little more about this interesting activity.
