Today I am pleased to return to the interviews and we had this one pending with an incredible Venezuelan band, with you The Copash Trio:
The Copash Trio, is a band of Rock & Roll, blues, country and other styles of the “past” influenced by the vintage sound of the golden age of these genres. It pays tribute to those decades and the sounds that were international trend, making versions of the classics and composing their own music, including those that are not rock, but always taken to the fresh and original concept of the band.
Who are the members of The Copash Trio?
Elio Fernández on drums, La Misma Gente, Bélica, Almenar ,El Último Sentimiento, Soto Blues Band, Los Mentas, among others.
Richard “The Copash” Pacheco (guitar and lead vocals), Mingo, Bueninvento, Soto Blues Band, Bélica Almenar, among others.
Luis Lizardo on bass, Iris and The Lizard Wizard, among others.
How, when and where was the band born?
The band was born little by little, Elio Fernandez and I (Richard Pacheco) shared multiple projects together, we had always wanted to do a blues rock project, reminiscent of the golden age of these genres. The first one to become independent was me and I was looking for musicians to start something new, Guillermo Torres (bass), Romulo Rassic, Samuel Landazabal and Carlos Valera (drummers) passed through the band, but it wasn’t until the arrival of Elio and Luis that we started to have a more creative and personal approach.
What is the focus of your lyrics and melodies?
The idea is to recover the vintage sound and the spirit of the blues mainly, however, we have a very pure rock approach, because as expected, we love that way of playing and approaching music, even the lyrics of the songs, have that idea well defined within themselves.
Have you done collaborations with other artists?
Not for now, but we would love to collaborate with bands that also want to keep the blues alive, but all of us individually, we have worked with multiple artists, who have brought a lot to our music, as we have occasionally moved into other styles such as jazz.
What has been the best experience for the band?
Our participation as guests in an event about the documentary “crudo el documental de Ismael” which was the winner of the Venezuelan film festival in 2022, because we had the task of interpreting songs by another artist and getting into that story was a very inspiring challenge.
Have you participated in events, forums? Tell us about it.
The Copash Trio has played all over Caracas and the Altos Mirandinos, there is almost no stage that has resisted us, we have also played at festivals, highlighting among them the LD FEST, it was a great experience because of the great receptivity of the public and the big stage, people appreciate the blues a lot even though they do not know it at all.
Any upcoming projects you would like to share with us?
Our next promotional single is called “el Yummy Azul” we are preparing the promotional video and it is a bluesy gem, we are excited to show our blues to the world, and even more when the song is loaded with Venezuelan references, so it is very much from here, even though the blues is not a genre of our country.
With what artistic aesthetics can the band be identified?
All the vintage aesthetics of blues and rock, but approaching modernity, this is not only noticeable in the music, but also in the way we present ourselves to the public.
Any artist of influence?
Many, but I can mention several, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert Collins, Freddie King, Junior Wells, BB King among the classics, but among the modern ones I can name Gary Clark Jr, Raphael Saadiq, The dap Kings, the black keys, among others.
