Today we have an incredible and dynamic artist, a visual artist that will blow your mind with his artistic expression, I invite you to enjoy this interview.
What or who is Naigart?
Wow, there was a time when I felt that Naigart was like the evolution of the concept of naigos.
At first it was a simple nickname that I used on the internet or in video games.
It was like a play on words that I made when I was just a teenager.
But little by little that simple concept of being a simple Nickname, I think it evolved to a point where it started to become part of me. Maybe like a more lively and edgier side than my personal self.
I think it would be like my artist side that wants to express things that I feel or think.
But then because of some complicated situations I was in, I see that it ended up becoming more like a concept. Maybe like a flame that drives me to create.
What was your first encounter with art?
My first encounter was when I was a child. I always found it kind of fun and rewarding to use art as a medium to share with others.
I remember that I always used to use it to have fun either with friends or even to amuse myself in my most boring moments.
And it wasn’t when I started watching the typical animated series when I was little.
It was always all very playful in a way.
What prompted you to take the path of illustration?
What prompted me? I think when I was a teenager I wanted to make comics or I remember I had it very much in my mind that I wanted to tell stories with drawings, as well as the things I consume since I was a kid.
At that time my mother had started studying design and that’s when I learned about the career.
And let’s just say it all came together.
What tools do you use in your creative process?
Mmm tools, I don’t know, it depends on what I want to do. I usually work in digital, so I always work on the PC.
But the times I want to do something by hand I use mediums like India ink and so on.
What is the focus of your art project?
In terms of approach, it depends. I usually focus on my work being like entertainment content.
I usually do stylized things or things that remind me of the things I used to consume when I was a kid.
Let’s say my approach is to make other people feel like a kid.
And in terms of subject matter I generally really like to draw fantasy and futuristic stuff.
And generally I also like to focus on the shapes of things and play with the shapes of reality.
What other trades do you have outside of illustration?
Outside of illustration, I think I would be an animator but I don’t think there is another one.
Other times I also try to make content for the internet as a hobby but sometimes I lose the habit.
I think it’s just because I see my work as very playful.
Tell us a bit about your animation work.
I usually have like a small team with whom I tried to create a kind of small studio-like team.
Mostly because I was doing small animated commissions and it was difficult for me to do it by myself. In that case I talked to some small friends about doing this work together.
In part I was not very convinced when I did those assignments but after a while I knew how to give it a focus that I liked and realized that beyond illustrating I enjoy telling or using the images to make audio visual content.
Any artists or characters of influence?
Influence I would say several. From Ghibli Studios with their films. Video games that I like and as for artists I would say Bruce Tim, plus the great Disney Mouse as a good nineties.
Do you work alone or do you belong to a crew or work team?
I usually work alone but I have a small crew with whom I ask for help for animation assignments and things like that.
We call ourselves Naipan. Nai for me and Pan for a friend.
Any upcoming project you want to share with us?
No projects as such, I’m currently focused on improving my animation skills and maybe finding ways to have fun in this career.
At the moment I don’t have any personal projects.
I haven’t had time to think about it.
What genre or label would you put on your artistic work?
Mmm genre, I would say fantasy, maybe cartoon.
And as for a label I would say flamboyant and mutable.
