Metallica – although they have not recorded any studio albums this year – does not cease to surprise. In this short article I will try to make a small summary of this year’s achievements (and even a few announcements for next year) of the biggest thrash metal group of all time.
The first is the September live album of Metallica, which performed on the most technically advanced, interactive indoor stage of all time. Start!
The above-mentioned concert edition “Through The Never” is just a soundtrack to the 3D film of the same title, which has just been seen in cinemas. As for the music itself, the quality of the material is stunning. Despite the participation of the audience, you can clearly hear every, even the smallest sound detail. It rarely happens that on this type of releases there is such a well-exposed rhythm section. What’s more, James Hetfield himself is in top form, and his vocals are the best in several years, which probably has a lot to do with warming up the vocal cords before starting to record a new studio album.
Exactly.. What about this new album? How are things going? There are many rumors about this. Maybe instead of creating more, I’ll give the floor to the youngest musician of the band Metallica. Bassist Robert Trujillo says of next year’s plans:
“There’s no doubt that next year our priority will be to record a new album. We had to give up on that idea this year. We only had six weeks in which we could really focus on the new album and writing. But it quickly ended and we hit the road. During this time, we also have to promote the film. Our heads are now occupied with great ideas – it is both a blessing and a curse at the same time.
Before this fuss about the movie, we were playing new stuff and having a lot of fun. But we had to do something else. But we’ll be spending 2014 making new music – all the time if we’re lucky.”
Whether it will add or not, we will probably find out soon. But before the new album sees the light of day, Metallica will embark on another tour. As part of the Sonisphere festival, the musicians will also perform in Poland! The concert will take place on July 11, 2o14 at the National Stadium. Interestingly, it will be a project entitled “Metallica by request” – that is, the fans of the band will choose the setlist that the Americans will present at their performance. The list of selected tracks for the English edition of Sonisphere can be followed at this link. As you can see, lovers are happy to take advantage of the opportunity given to them. The founder of the band, Lars Ulrich , comments on this extraordinary event:
“And what could be more fitting for our third visit to Knebworth than playing an on-demand set, chosen exclusively by our fans? We’re so excited about the endless possibilities of our friends choosing songs from a list of over 140 songs we’ve recorded in our history. Who knows what challenges will be thrown at us? Maybe a song we’ve never played live? Maybe a few older numbers that haven’t been heard in ages? Maybe a few of your favorite songs? Forgotten cover? Whatever happens, it will be unique, unique and dependent only on you.”
(I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait!)
The last element of this express review is a new record that the musicians set literally a few days ago. In one year they played concerts on all six continents of the world! On December 8, Metallica performed in Antarctica, specifically in the South Shetland Islands – islands on the shelf of the ice continent, where the Argentinian research station Carlini is located. The concert was broadcast to the headphones of the few fans gathered on the spot, for whom a special cruise had been previously organized. What’s more interesting, a Polish flag also appeared above the heads of the gathered!
As you can see, despite their age – James, Lars, Kirk and Robert do not think about resting on their laurels. Despite numerous successes, they continue to move forward with such a huge momentum that it is really hard to predict what other surprises they will prepare for us in the coming years!
