Today we found ourselves talking with Genesys Bramble, an incredible Venezuelan DJ, we wanted to know more about her and her aspirations and goals, here we tell you about it, enjoy.
Who is Genesys Bramble?
First and foremost a human being, honest, eager to learn, to improve myself so I can help the rest of the people around me.
Tell us about your passion for music.
For me music is empathy, we connect with it at the moment we need it, if we are happy we play music that follows our mood, or if we are sad it’s the same, that’s how my passion was born, music has always been my companion, it makes me happy to manipulate it and because of that generate new sensations and experiences.
What music genres inspire you?
House, Organic House and Melodic Techno are my favorite but I also like Pop music, R&B, Soul and Rap.
How do you describe your musical style?
My ear takes me on a journey of different sounds, my sets are composed of super feeling tracks with enveloping vocals, I always have in my list some audio with a poem, or just the vocals of a song that has a good message or a funny and catchy sentence, hypnotic melodies can’t miss, and some experimental sounds that are out of the mold, Among the rhythms that I like the most are the House and Techno, so in my set we can walk progressively through several sub genres of these as Organic House, Deep House Tech House, Afro Deep House, Melodic Techno trying to take the set to a different destination where people enter into a trance with the music.
What tools and software do you use to create your music?
When I started I organized my set in Recordbox and to mix I used a Pioneer XDJ-RX, at the same time I was learning to use Abletonlive, but I had to stop because I was mixing every weekend and during the week I was working on other things, I was really saturated, but I hope this year I can resume it, at the moment I am using a Reloop Beat Mix 2 Midi controller from Serato, to mix with this equipment I use my laptop with the Tracktor program.
How do you describe yourself as an artist? What makes you different from other DJs?
In each project I reflect what I am, I don’t try to create a character as many do in the art world, I don’t criticize it, I want to leave my essence in what I do, to reflect the steps I take in life and connect soul to soul with people, I am not an artist who goes around looking for which is the most played song or which is the song that people like the most, I try to choose my music as different as possible to other djs, I do not like to always play the song that is playing, my idea is that people should take a unique memory of each party and each dj!
What motivated you to become a DJ?
In the times of pandemic we all found ourselves with a part of us that was kept dulled and distracted with the chaos of what I can call a system that only wants to keep us in a margin and do not allow the full development of our being, already removed from everything, I met my only solace, music, it diluted all the mundane that was happening in me and transformed me into something new, I only wanted music and I wanted to take all this journey to the outside with sensations far from the ordinary, I wanted people to feel what I could feel when I listened to the songs that made me enter a perpetual journey of empathy with the sound, that was what really made me happy and I wanted everyone to feel like me, that they could cry, laugh and enjoy with the music.
What were your first musical projects and how did they help you grow as an artist?
I am still a very young artist and I am in a process, I am still sowing and learning to later reap my fruits. But I have achieved amazing things and smeared with my talent.
Besides being a DJ I am also a singer, even my first project was a NuSoul track with Trap lines with the rapper Mar Montoya, thanks to that song I met a producer who wanted to work with my voice but in the end became my teacher teaching me the art of Dijing, my teacher with over 20 years of experience Daniel Martinetti in WARP one of the most talented DJs and producers of Peru, saw that I had wood and gave me the opportunity to start mixing in the Raves of Peru, my debut was in the COLOR FEST 2021 July in Peru/Chimbote, seeing that I did well he threw me to the controls in the best Underground Rave in Lima “El AQUELARRE”, sharing incredible Line Ups with Djs praised by the Peruvian scene as for example Danny Em, Mario Liberti, Cristian Berger, Alexander Berger, Flavia Paurinoto, then I was walking around some of the electronic clubs in Lima as the famous Casona de Camana, where great Djs from all over the world have performed.
I also arrived in Nazca/Peru in 2022, a magical town full of great historical monuments, I recorded an audiovisual Dj Set in the aqueducts of Atalloc, but a year before I had already set foot in Nazca mixing in one of its most famous nightclubs Villa Elicaptups. After playing several dates since 2021 I became the resident Dj of Aquelarre with Danny Em, at the same time we worked on singles with lyrics full of transforming energy of experimental electronica and Nusoul. In December 2022 I decide to return to my country of origin, being already in Venezuela in January 2023 I was mixing in the most visited disco of Caracas La Quinta Bar, after this I had a warm welcome to the electronic scene in Caracas participating in several editions of the Licuadora Alternativa a place full of art, sharing line up with djs extraodinarios of Caracas scene that have an intense trajectory as Doorkas, Federico Blank, Dj Ziete, Dj Clínex. Another place that opened its doors to me was MAKINAKREA in the Lunatoquies sessions, this was carried out in its majestic location where Djs and bands that have recorded a lot of talent and flow, on that occasion sharing line ups with djs and music producers Luvini and Mathik, now I find myself around a crew of versatile djs that do not take hold of a single genre but of all as Dj Electricbaby, Dj Xandoval and Dj Chermy, with these djs I am learning every day more and more of their techniques and of the Venezuelan dj scene.
Who are some of your favorite artists and how have they influenced your music?
- Nicole Moudauber, I love her presence, she is different to many djs, wherever she stands you will know it’s Nicole and her natural look, unlike the other superficial djs. Nicole’s mixing style is sensational, she goes through different genres between house and techno, and I have seen her live, she lights up the after party and you can feel the vibes!
- The Soul Brothers, is a duo of Mexican djs / producers and their dj sets are composed by their own EPs, this duo is Deep House and Organic, when I started listening to them I got caught by the Boleros and Soul vocals that they use in their productions, the voices and sounds catch you. When I mix some of their tracks it’s impossible for the party to turn off.
- Danny Em, is a Peruvian dj/producer and multidisciplinary artist, he always surprises with his amazing sets of experimental electronica, but also sets influenced by the fine sound of Chicago, Detroit and New York Garage.
- Dandara, is a dj/producer from Switzerland who is characterized by joining electronic sounds with organic sounds, his tracks are essential for my warm up.
- Carl cox, is the master and influence of many, I love his sets full of house and pure energy, I have also seen him live and it was one of my best trips through electronic music.
- Kermesse, is a duo from Argentina and their sound could be described as effervescent and colorful, product of the fusion of electronic sounds with organic instruments and voices.
Is there any artist you would like to collaborate with in the future?
Without going too far away there is an artist that I love from Venezuela called Lechu Malkovich, she is the founder of We are play music and Label Wamp Records, for a long time in my mind she is reflected as an example and admiration, I would love to do a back to back with her or at least share a line up.
How was your experience living and working as a DJ in Peru?
Divine, they have enough public for the electronic music scene there is for all niches, there are many platforms where djs can show what they have, on weekends Peru is full of Ravers walking from party to party visiting all the electronic music clubs, the people who go to the Raves are very vibrant people open to different styles, they always made me feel happy as if I was at home, wherever I went to play I always received the best from both the djs and the public.
What do you take from your experience in Peru that you will apply to your career in Venezuela?
In Peru when the events were held, either a controller was rented or someone brought one, it was a single piece of equipment for all the djs that were going to play at night, the only thing you had to bring was your USB and your headphones, it was not necessary to have a mixer. Now when I came here to Venezuela I had to quickly buy a controller to be able to mix at parties, because every event I was invited to ask me if I had equipment. What should apply the producers of the events is to rent their equipment because there are many risks in the street and these teams are a great investment, I feel it is a very big risk that the djs walk with their equipment on the street. My goal is to buy quality equipment and start renting it to production companies for affordable prices.
What motivated you to return to Venezuela?
One day I was mixing in a super Under local in Lima, and I saw the dance floor full of people in unison with the music traveling with their eyes closed, I saw the happiness, love and calm in their hearts when I saw that I almost cried, and a thought came to my mind, why not take this feeling to my country and give this beautiful feeling to my people? I felt that what I was doing was growing but I wanted to continue it in my country.
How do you think you can contribute to the development of the electronic music scene in Venezuela?
The truth is there are many ways to support, but we have to keep in mind that the first step to achieve this is to leave the ego and differences and give the value it deserves to each one, we must focus on the music and support the different proposals, what I want most is to bring different music to the streets of Venezuela at least a touch of 4 hours a week, 2 djs totally free in the street, it can be in a square or in a garden, so everyone has access and people will have the opportunity to experiment maybe with a style they have never heard, with this we promote a little more the culture of electronic music in Venezuela.
What do you think about the future of electronic music in Venezuela?
I can not say exactly what can happen, what I do know, is what is happening right now, while people who organize events continue to take advantage of the artists with the excuse that the country is bad and that people do not consume at their parties, that they gave away all their tickets, which is really a lie, and the artists themselves do not give their place, let’s go down, because they live from this art, people do not want to pay for tickets but if they have to buy a few beers and their respective knick-knacks or if a Venezuelan who is out of the country or a foreigner comes, they pay for their tickets, What they will achieve is that people with real talent emigrate and seek to be valued elsewhere, another thing is the little ring of friends who do not let go and at parties are always the same, rotate, we are extraordinarily talented, what we need is to leave high that we are Venezuelans and that this is a country full of art everywhere you look, if we unite and stop seeing the country as a pupu, we would achieve more. Again I repeat, not all event producers and public in general are like this. But I know several that are.
What do you like most about being a DJ?
That we are all enjoying, dancing, and sweating music.
