Today we are dancing! Falola tells us a little about her incredible talent to express herself through dance. I invite you to enjoy this interview.
I have been dancing since I was a little girl, since I was very young, I have danced for my school and I danced in some events near my house (small things) I have always liked to dance, my mom has influenced me a lot too, because she likes to dance “Salsa”, and since I was little she instilled in me a lot of Latin dances, I grew up and started dancing street styles with my sister who also inspired me a lot because she is also a dancer, she took me to know those styles of street dance and I liked much more that trend and I am exercising it at a professional level since I was 18 years old (no, lie) I think since I was 15 years old, something like that, if since 2013.
Have you participated in festivals or competitions at national level?
I have participated in competitions at the national level, they are not academic competitions, they are individual, 1 vs 1, we are in front of each other seeing how we execute our dances, I have participated in competitions since 2016 approximately in festivals but not of a competitive nature, in electronic parties for example.
What other trades do you have outside of dancing?
At the moment I do not have any other trade since thanks to God that has allowed me, dance is my passion, my profession, my job, my work, it is my everything, from there I also support myself and I have had the opportunity to get work with it, it does not mean that I am not looking for something beyond dance, currently I have been exploring other areas that also go with art, such as audiovisual, graphic design, these things to learn a little more, and have a backup of what may be a future job.
What rhythms inspire you to dance?
Well, I am a music lover, I love music very much, I enjoy all musical genres to the fullest, but the most are Funk, Salsa, Merengue, most Latin rhythms, I love Samba! It drives me crazy, I also love African music, disco music, electronic music, House Techno.
What types of dance do you practice and in which of them do you stand out the most?
Well currently all the dances that I perform, the vast majority are urban dances of HipHop culture are Hip Hop Dance, Wakie, Popping, Amapiano and the latter also covers what is the Afrodance, I also usually handle many styles of modern African dance as Cupedecalei, Afro House, Amapiano, but among all these styles of dance in which I feel more confident and comfortable is the HipHop Dance.
Do you think your dance has an impact on today’s society?
In itself the dance by itself causes an impact on society, but I am a young generation of dance styles, what I do, in general of dance, as well as dance has made a change in me, thank God I have been able through that, make positive changes to other people, new generations who are willing to learn, to move forward and that society has also judged them at all times, much prejudice, those comments like “dance will not make you go far, I have also taught classes to children, youth and adults, people who are really very good and have an incredible talent, but they doubt themselves and when they see someone who motivates them, it is nice because they are very encouraged to continue to perform their dance.
