Today we are talking with Carlos (Cesn) The pride of the block. Venezuelan rapper who today tells us about his musical expression and part of the project that is linked to his career as an artist.
Astrid: Since when did you decide to rap?
Carlos: I could say that my time as a writer of rhyming poetry starts since I started in graffiti. One used to, in the footer of the sketches he made, place messages alluding to your crew or situations that were occurring at a certain time, only that he did not identify it as rap, nor did he sing it, I only lived it.
Astrid: Tell us about ‘Los del Blopue’ When was it born and for what purpose?
Carlos: I could say that Los del Blopue was born as a kind of synthesis of many expressions and cultural experiences that, in one way or another, we promoted in the activities we carried out in the Guarenas-Guatire axis. Dance, circus, music, murals, festivals, meetings, among other activities, gestated and produced mostly by young people in these municipalities. It is together with Ibikino, as for the year 2010 that I think the name and begin to position it as a hallmark of our productions.
Astrid: When did you first record?
Carlos: I recorded my first home song in 2004, experimenting with a computer microphone and a home program. It was in 2005 where I recorded my first song in a more professional studio with some colleagues, who at that time were painting and also rapping.
Astrid: How many musical projects have you been in since your inception?
Carlos: Musical projects as such, I could say that only my group Kultura Santa. In my beginnings as Mc I was part of a conglomerate of artists called the “Peasant Revolution”. I was also part of the HHR Collective and De La Raíz Recordz. In the same way I have collaborated with several national artists. I have also collaborated in different national and international compilations.
Astrid: When was your first live performance? Was it as a solo rapper or with a band?
Carlos: My first live performance was on the anniversary of the “Peasant Revolution” in 2005. It was my first live experience alone as Mc. At that time Kultura Santa did not yet exist as a group.
Astrid: What other trades do you have outside of music?
Carlos: Apart from being a musician, I am a Producer and Audiovisual Director. I’m also a graphic artist. I do everything from screen printing to murals.
Astrid: Any reference artists?
Carlos: I am a high consumer of music, both national and international rap, and many other styles of music. It is difficult to have a specific reference to guide me when doing my thing, however, I have always identified with just causes, until when musically concerned.
Astrid: Have you attended events nationwide?
Carlos: Yes, I have attended several major events nationwide. I can mention the International Summits of Hip Hop, Latin Rap Festival, Festival Otro Beta Maracay, Ccs Rapea, among others.
Astrid: What is the goal in your lyrics and in the content of your projects?
Carlos: I could say that at one point in my life and my musical career, I aimed to generate a change through my lyrics. I currently enjoy what I do and try to feel good about myself and my surroundings.
Astrid: Would you do this for the rest of your life?
Carlos: Without hesitation I would do this for the rest of my life.
