Canada is a strange country. And in fact, not even a country. Everyone there apologizes for everything and speaks strangely, neither in English, nor in French, a little in their own way, and a little nobody knows how. In addition, they have a band that reworks Kanye West songs into jazz.
Bad Bad Not Good is a trio of men from Toronto: Matthew A. Tavares (keyboards), Chester Hansen (bass) and Alexander Sowinski (drums). And what gentlemen they are! Their first performance was not met with enthusiasm, even their music was accused of a lack of value (?!). Undeterred by the criticism, they uploaded their videos to YouTube, where Tyler, The Creator, found them. And it was he who helped three Toronto students start their careers, even inviting them to jam together in the basement.
Soon after, they released their first album, BBNG. Later, another one – BBNG2. Guess what the third album will be called? Yes, BBNG3. Why bother with such insignificant things as the name of the album.
Bad Bad Not Good play jazz. A word of honor, this is jazz. But not the jazz that is associated with parties under a tie and glasses of wine, or with hipsters with egos that do not fit in the Congress Hall, but completely different. They record covers of Feist, James Blake, Kanye West or A Tribe Called Quest, a repertoire that everyone will be able to reach, and finally only jazz musicians. Their albums are explosions of energy, jazz chaos in which there is method, madness and musical innovation, electronic flavors and surprising turns that appear out of nowhere. Before you put a line on jazz, listen to Bad Nad Not Good – if you don’t like their interpretation of jazz either, you may think that this is really not it.
