Yaherber Herrera better known as 'Un tal Yupi', Venezuelan music producer, tells us about the urban movement and its trajectory. He has a lot to listen to and it is an honor to have him with us today, enjoy it!
Astrid: When did your interest in music begin?
Yaherber: Since I was little when I heard rap for the first time I loved it, I always played rapping with my cousins until I decided to write a song with the help of my younger brother, I discovered that I could write and I started with one of my cousins to do it and rap, together with another friend we formed a group called Humilde Family and from there arose the need to have our own beats and way of recording ourselves, That's how my interest in music production began. Just at that time a hip hop school was opened where they taught 4 elements of culture and I did not have time for the mc class I had to get into music production classes, there I met my teacher Azael Alejandro Izaguirre who showed me the world of music and production taking my mind out of the programs and taking everything to the pentagrammed notebooks as the main focus of music.
Astrid: For you, what is Hip hop as an urban expression?
Yaherber: Hip hop is a very beautiful culture full of all violence, anger, love, sadness, struggle, where everything is expressed in many ways with its 9 elements and I see it as a great tool of life for many, it saved my life has given me knowledge of how to step on the earth, it has taught me values, It has given me hunger and food, it gave me a family and without a doubt it is a culture that has impacted society a lot from graffiti to rap, as an expression it is something liberating so much that it is a universal culture since there is not a country in the world without someone identified with it.
Hip hop is life.
Astrid: What was the first artist or crew you did fusion with?
Yaherber: When I arrived in Caracas in 2015, I started to make my way to touch and meet valuable people who taught me a lot.
I worked a lot with 2PALACAUSA I had the opportunity to make the album to Pepe Del Patio, I worked hand in hand with the label La Dolce Vita of my brother Le Burguez and those were the first jobs I did aware of what I was doing and what I wanted.
Astrid: Do you have any upcoming projects that you want to share with us?
Yaherber: Soon the second part of my album with DJ13 "Aristocracy 22" is going to be released, continuing what was "Aristocracy" released on the first of January 2021.
It is an album of great collaborations of both Venezuelan musicians and rappers, I can name Apache, Gona, La Corte, Ice Od, 3M5 among others.
Astrid: What is the experience of continuing to work in your native country like?
Yaherber: I am lucky to work with what I like and to be able to continue in Venezuela, it is not easy, there are many difficulties that if the electricity went out, that there is no internet and if there is it is very slow, etc. And as I work mostly remotely, communication is difficult sometimes, but it feels good that somehow so much work and effort is working to achieve small and big goals from here, for the moment here I will continue to give everything and make it possible, facing the difficulties that my country offers me.
Astrid: Do you have an artist who will influence you?
Yaherber: When I met the work of Cooking Soul I was also very inspired by producer Apollo Brown is one of my biggest influences to make Beat.
Astrid: What kind of tools does a music producer use?
Yaherber: A computer, audio software, headphones, interface, microphones, audio monitors, cables, and many things, but the main thing is the desire to experiment and grow, without desire or perseverance, even having all the best tools in the world, nothing is achieved, since those tools do not move alone, one must want to improve learning to use and move each button, Test, study, listen to other professionals and thus be able to take advantage of the many or few tools that are achieved.
Astrid: Do you think your expressive medium can make a social impact?
Yaherber: I think it can move the world, since there is a whole wave of auditory reality that reaches beyond the ears, the way to inspire others to take action, to cry, to laugh and the responsibility that all this brings is great, so I think it does impact society in a positive way.
Music is powerful and power, create atmospheres, give a feeling to a piece that can be interpreted by many in different ways leaves a mark.
Astrid: Do you also rap (sing)?
Yaherber: I tried for a long time, I recorded many songs at my friend Mabus's house, in 2017 I published an EP called "Personal" and after that I decided not to continue because I felt that I did not have what it took to do it in a fluid and pleasant way to others, I felt that I lacked many techniques and I better dedicate myself to perfecting music production.
Astrid: Would you do this for the rest of your life?
Yaherber: Yes God and my ears allow me, I think I will be working hard all my life on what I love, if not, I think it would not be worth so much sacrifice and struggle to be able to give continuity to this that has taught me to defend myself, to stop, analyze and look for solutions.Sometimes everything becomes difficult but I'm sure this doesn't stop.
For me it is always an honor to be able to know more about these great artists and their work, thanks to Yaherber for allowing me to talk with him today, I invite you to follow him on his social networks and digital platforms.
